Formula

Unix time = seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z. ISO time = the same instant in calendar form. Multiply seconds by 1,000 for milliseconds.

Example

0 → 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z. 1700000000 → 14 Nov 2023, 22:13:20 UTC.

Frequently asked

Seconds or milliseconds?

We use seconds (the Unix standard). Multiply by 1,000 for JavaScript Date().

What about negative timestamps?

Allowed — they represent dates before 1970-01-01 UTC.
